Happy Father’s Day to the golfers, fishermen, grill masters, amateur handymen and couch potatoes who still won’t ask for directions.

That’s the definition of a Dad, according to the Father’s Day greeting cards I found.

As a father, I wasn’t terribly impressed.

As a communications consultant, though, I’ll give them credit. Best practice says tailor the content to your audience. Make it relevant. Talk about what they care about. That’s the approach I take when I’m writing or consulting on a project.

I appreciate the effort, at least. Even if the execution could use some work.

And that’s coming from someone who enjoys a good dad joke. (Do you know how you can spot a good dad joke? It’s apparent.)
